James Lupton

James Lupton, and Episcopal priest, lives in North Carolina. He serves parishes and writes fiction. Combining historical sources of murder with romance and theology he's Produced Turbulent Youth, early years of his medieval ancestor, Roger Lupton. A sequel, Perilous Power, with Roger as royal chaplain, provost of Eton College and founder of Sedbergh School is in process. Widowed, James travels and visits children and grandchildren in different states. He welcomes inquiries at jlupton2002@yahoo.com.

Roger resented Coverham Abbey School but as second son, the church career was necessary because Roger's older brother, Thomas, would inherit the family land and title in the local feudal hierarchy. While Roger adapted to monastic daily office, fasted and prayed, Thomas was at Middleton Hall learning the skills of a warrior: fast riding, fencing and jousting.

Consumed with envy, the only way Roger could get ahead of Thomas was to become an abbot or bishop. So Roger worked hard and was chosen to be cantor at the Christ Mass, a great honor for a young postulant. It was his moment of triumph and all would have gone as planned except that Roger took a forbidden glance at beautiful Alice Compton, the vivacious young daughter of a local squire. So beings James Lupton's spellbinding tale of ambition, love, betrayal and murder set in medieval fifteenth-century England.

All about Cliffhangers

Topic: All About Cliffhangers

Speaker: Marni Graff

Marni Graff will address the subject of cliffhangers, and chapter endings that compel readers to turn to the next page in your work. She will describe 3 ways to implement them in your writing, and then 9 different types of cliffhangers writers use. Specific examples will illustrate each type of cliffhanger noted. A handout to take away will reinforce what participants have learned. Questions can be related to cliffhangers, to her writing process, or to submissions to the curated hybrid press where she serves as Managing Editor.

Marni Graff is the award-winning author of The Nora Tierney English Mysteries and The Trudy Genova Manhattan Mysteries. She writes a crime review blog (www.auntiemwrites.com), reviewing for the main houses and several in the UK. Graff is also Managing Editor of Bridle Path Press (http://www.bridlepathpress.com/ ) and a member of Sisters in Crime. Her newest release is THE GOLDEN HOUR.
